N3 (Intermediate Level)
N3 is the transitional level between basic and advanced Japanese. Vocabulary increases significantly to around 3,750 words and 650 kanji. You’ll master complex grammar structures like passive, causative, potential, conditional, and commonly used expressions. You’ll also learn how to handle keigo (honorific language) at a basic level. Listening comprehension requires understanding longer conversations, announcements, and interviews at near-natural speed. Reading includes short essays, reviews, advertisements, and news excerpts. N3-level students can handle practical everyday situations and begin to understand nuanced ideas, although full fluency is not expected.
