Levels of JLPT
Our Level N5 course is ideal for those starting their Japanese language journey. In this course, you will learn the basics of grammar, acquire essential vocabulary, and begin reading and writing simple sentences. You’ll master 100kanji characters and around 800words, enabling you to engage in basic conversations and understand everyday written Japanese.
- Course Duration: 3 months (12 weeks)
- Study Time: 2 to 3 hours of class per week + 3 to 4 hours of self-study per week
Key Learning Outcomes:
Ability to read and understand basic sentences and expressions in hiragana, katakana, and basic kanji.
Understand and comprehend simple conversations on familiar daily topics, spoken slowly.
Engage in basic conversations on common topics and express simple thoughts.
This level is typically reached after studying Japanese for approximately 150 hours and is perfect for those looking to build a solid foundation in the language.
The Level N4 course helps you build on the foundation of Level N5. You will learn 300 kanji characters and expand your vocabulary to around 1500 words. At this level, you will be able to take part in everyday conversations and read and write simple passages on familiar topics.

In Level N3, you will deepen your understanding of grammar and expand your vocabulary. You will learn 600 kanji characters and 3750words, enabling you to participate more confidently in conversations, as well as read and understand moderately difficult written content.

Comprehend coherent conversations in everyday situations spoken at a near-natural speed.

This level is typically reached after 450 hours of study and provides the foundation for intermediate fluency in Japanese.
At Level N2, you will acquire an advanced understanding of grammar and vocabulary, learning 1000kanji characters and 6000words. This level will help you read more complex materials and engage in more sophisticated conversations, enhancing your fluency.

You’ll gain the ability to read and comprehend abstract and logical content in various fields, from literature to business.
