N5 (Basic Level)
N5 is the entry-level of the JLPT, aimed at complete beginners. It focuses on very basic Japanese used in daily life, such as greetings, telling the time, numbers, and basic questions. You will learn around 800 vocabulary words, 100 kanji characters, and fundamental grammar patterns. The grammar includes basic sentence structure (subject + object + verb), particles like は, を, に, and で, and basic verb conjugations like present and past tense. The listening section involves short conversations in a classroom or shopping context, spoken slowly. Reading materials include simple sentences in hiragana, katakana, and very basic kanji.
